Formulas & assumptions
Understand the geometric volume formulas, density references, and bulk unit conversions we use.
Units, Waste Allowance, Density & Bag Sizes Explained
Volume describes physical 3D space. Weight is an estimate derived from volume and material density. Waste allowance covers spillage, compaction, and uneven excavation borders.
Imperial Volume
27 cubic feet (ft³) = 1 cubic yard (yd³). Cubic yards are the industry standard for bulk delivery trucks, gravel supply yards, and mulch distributors.
Metric Volume
1 cubic metre (m³) = 1,000 litres (L). Ideal for metric landscaping projects. Formulexa lets you mix horizontal feet with inch depths or metres with centimetre depths seamlessly.
